Texas Rangers name Skip Schumaker as their new manager

The Texas Rangers have officially named Skip Schumaker as their new manager, signing him to a four-year contract through the 2029 season.

Schumaker, who won the 2023 National League Manager of the Year award, steps in to replace Bruce Bochy, who recently announced his departure after three seasons and a World Series title. The Rangers revealed the hiring on Friday night, just days after Bochy’s exit was confirmed.

At 45, Schumaker becomes the 21st full-time manager in franchise history. He joined the Rangers organization in November 2024 as a Senior Advisor for Baseball Operations, following two seasons managing the Miami Marlins—where he earned his 2023 Manager of the Year honors.

Before his coaching career, Schumaker spent 11 years as a major league player. Interestingly, he never faced the Rangers in a regular-season game during his playing days. Off the field, he lives in California with his wife, Lindsey, and their two children, Brody and Presley.

Rangers President of Baseball Operations Chris Young praised Schumaker’s leadership and energy:

> “We’re thrilled to have Skip leading this team. Over the past year, he’s shown passion, discipline, and a true winning spirit.”

Schumaker expressed enthusiasm for his new role, saying,

> “I’m honored and excited to manage the Rangers. After working in the front office this past year, I’ve gained a deep appreciation for this organization and can’t wait to get started for the 2026 season.”

The team will announce details for Schumaker’s introductory press conference in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Bruce Bochy, who guided the Rangers to their first-ever World Series championship, will move into a front-office advisory role with the club.
