Braves bring back $1 million World Series champion for a third stint following recent departure

The Atlanta Braves are undergoing significant changes this offseason, starting with a shift in leadership. Longtime manager Brian Snitker will not be returning to his role, a move that had been anticipated for some time.

“Given the team’s consistent success in recent years, Snitker might have been granted a ‘mulligan’ season under normal circumstances,” wrote Kerry Miller of *Bleacher Report.* “However, at 69, he’s already the oldest manager in the National League by several years and was expected to retire after this season, which marks the end of his contract.”

In addition to the managerial change, the Braves also saw the departure of veteran catcher and former World Series champion Sandy León, who elected free agency earlier in the week.

“On Monday, David O’Brien of *The Athletic* reported that León chose free agency after being removed from the Braves’ 40-man roster at season’s end. The 36-year-old went 1-for-12 during his brief stint in the majors this season, appearing in five games over two months,” wrote Jackson Roberts of *Sports Illustrated.*

However, just days later, the Braves opted to bring León back on a minor league contract.

“The Atlanta Braves have added experienced catching depth, re-signing Sandy León to a minor league deal,” reported *SI’s* Harrison Smajovits. “He’s been assigned to Triple-A Gwinnett, where he’s spent most of the past two seasons.”

The signing is largely a depth move, ensuring stability at the catcher position should injuries occur again. León, known for his leadership and veteran presence, adds valuable experience to the organization.

While this transaction isn’t a blockbuster, it could signal the beginning of a busy offseason for Atlanta. With a managerial vacancy and roster spots to fill, the Braves are expected to make several notable moves in the coming weeks.
