The Boston Red Sox have officially secured their first playoff berth since 2021, thanks to an exciting 4-3 victory highlighted by Ceddanne Rafaela’s walk-off triple. This season has been marked by ups and downs, but the emergence of rookie standout Roman Anthony played a crucial role in pushing the team forward.
Despite suffering a left oblique strain that has sidelined the 21-year-old outfielder, Anthony is steadily working toward a return. Speaking with reporters after the playoff clinch, he shared his optimism about rejoining the team before the postseason ends.
“It’s unbelievable,” Anthony said in a video shared on X by WBZ-TV’s Joe Giza. “This is what you play for. Even though it’s only my first year, this experience has been unreal. The guys, the staff, this team—it’s something special. We come to the field every day ready to support each other. We’re like a family, all working hard to bring a championship to Boston.”
While frustrated to be sidelined, Anthony is committed to his rehab and eager to return.
“It’s tough being a spectator, but I’m doing everything I can to get back into the lineup and help these guys win. I’m feeling good and working hard every day. The rehab team, trainers, and staff have been incredible.”
Before his injury, Anthony made a significant impact in 71 games, posting a .292 batting average, .396 on-base percentage, and a .859 slugging percentage, with eight home runs, 18 doubles, and 32 RBIs.
If he manages to return during the postseason, Anthony’s presence could greatly enhance Boston’s chances of making a deep playoff run.
