Injury-Ravaged Texas Rangers Shut Down Star Infielders as Fading Playoff Hopes Mark Disheartening End to 2025 Campaign

The Texas Rangers have officially ruled out star infielders Corey Seager and Marcus Semien for the remainder of the season, as the team faces the growing likelihood of missing the postseason.

Injury Setbacks Confirmed

Manager Bruce Bochy announced Monday that both players will remain on the 10-day injured list through the season finale, closing the book on what has been a frustrating, injury-filled campaign for the defending World Series champions.

Semien, out since August 23, suffered a fractured third metatarsal and a Lisfranc sprain in his foot. While early expectations were hopeful for a return, recovery has taken longer than hoped. Seager, meanwhile, has been sidelined since August 29 after undergoing an appendectomy, adding to a season already disrupted by nagging injuries, including a lingering hamstring issue.

Season Recap: Seager

Now in the fourth year of his 10-year, $325 million deal, Seager finishes 2025 having played just 102 games, his fewest since 2021. Despite hitting .271 with a .373 OBP, 21 home runs, and 50 RBIs, his power numbers took a dip, falling short of the 30-HR mark for the first time in his Rangers tenure. Injuries limited his impact, though his career accolades—including two World Series MVPs—remain a testament to his talent.

Season Recap: Semien

Semien, on a seven-year, $175 million contract, has been a model of durability throughout his career, playing all 162 games in both 2021 and 2023. But 2025 was a different story. Before his injury, he struggled at the plate, posting a .230 average, 15 home runs, and 64 RBIs—his least productive season since joining Texas. At age 35 in 2026, with over $60 million left on his deal, Semien will look to bounce back.

What’s Next for the Rangers

With their veteran middle infielders sidelined and their playoff hopes fading, the Rangers are staring down a bitter end to a season once filled with high expectations. The loss of Seager and Semien has created a massive gap in both leadership and production, underscoring just how much injuries have derailed the team’s trajectory in 2025.
