As the Cincinnati Reds intensify their pursuit of an NL Wild Card berth, they’ve added two important arms back to their pitching staff. Right-handers Chase Burns and Graham Ashcraft have been activated from the 15-day injured list, giving the team a timely boost ahead of a crucial West Coast series against the Oakland Athletics.
Although the Reds trail the NL Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers by 14.5 games, they remain firmly in the Wild Card race—just two games behind the New York Mets for the final playoff spot. After recent series wins over both the Mets and Padres, Cincinnati has gained momentum and made up ground on key competitors.
According to Reds beat reporter Mark Sheldon, the roster moves were made during the team’s off-day on Thursday. In a corresponding move, Lyon Richardson and Yosver Zulueta were optioned to Triple-A Louisville to make room on the active roster.
While both Burns and Ashcraft have typically served as starters, they’ll join the bullpen for now, adding depth and versatility to a relief corps that’s been under pressure during the playoff chase. Their presence could be critical as the Reds open their series in Sacramento on Friday night, looking to continue their recent surge.
