With their playoff hopes hanging in the balance, the Texas Rangers are making roster adjustments amid a wave of late-season injuries. Sitting just above .500 with a 68-67 record, the team was dealt a significant blow when star shortstop Corey Seager underwent an appendectomy earlier this week. While Seager could return before the end of the season, that depends on whether the Rangers stay in the postseason race.
In response to Seager’s absence, Texas is expected to call up infielder Dylan Moore, who recently joined their Triple-A affiliate after being designated for assignment by the Seattle Mariners. Moore, a versatile utility player who debuted with Seattle in 2019, is known for his defensive flexibility and speed on the basepaths. Though he’s struggled offensively this season—batting just .193 with nine home runs and 19 RBIs over 213 plate appearances—he brings Gold Glove-caliber defense, which the Rangers hope can help stabilize their infield.
Once Seager is officially placed on the injured list, Moore is expected to be promoted to the major league roster, despite having only joined the organization days ago. As reported by Jeff Wilson of AllDALLAS.com, Moore’s contract is likely to be selected from Triple-A Round Rock by Friday.
Seager’s injury is a major setback, especially given his strong 2025 campaign—he’s hitting .271 with 21 home runs and 50 RBIs over 102 games. While Moore won’t match Seager’s offensive output, his defensive ability and experience at shortstop provide the Rangers with a much-needed stopgap.
Texas, which has won five of its last six games, is looking to maintain its momentum as they begin a weekend series against the Oakland Athletics. Jack Leiter is slated to start Friday’s opener against Jeffrey Springs, with the team hoping to stay in the playoff hunt despite Seager’s absence.
