Reds Acquire Versatile Veteran Bat in Final Moments of Trade Deadline to Enhance Offensive Flexibility

Cincinnati Reds Add Miguel Andujar from A’s in Quiet, Last-Minute Deadline Move

Just before the MLB trade deadline struck on Thursday, the Cincinnati Reds made a low-cost, low-risk acquisition by trading for infielder/outfielder Miguel Andujar from the Oakland Athletics, according to multiple reports including Ari Alexander of KPRC Houston.

Andujar had just homered twice in his final game in an A’s uniform—likely his last appearance for Oakland this season. A former top prospect with the Yankees, Andujar has now been traded to his fourth team since 2022. Known more for his bat than his glove, Andujar has filled various roles across the infield and outfield, often used as a designated hitter.

While not known for elite exit velocity or defense—two traits Reds President Nick Krall has recently emphasized—the 29-year-old offers some offensive upside, particularly against left-handed pitching, albeit in limited sample sizes. He’s also been riding a wave of good fortune at the plate, fueled by a high BABIP.

Financially, this move is minimal for the Reds. Andujar is only owed the remaining portion of his $3 million 2025 salary and is set to become a free agent at season’s end. Essentially, the Reds upgraded the fringes of their roster, replacing Connor Joe with Andujar as their 26th man.

Details on what the Reds sent to Oakland haven’t been revealed yet, but expectations are that the return is minimal. In typical Reds fashion, this move resembles past low-profile deadline pickups like Asdrúbal Cabrera or Amed Rosario—a small addition meant to fine-tune the roster without making major waves.
