The Chicago Blackhawks have officially secured one of their most promising young talents, signing Swedish forward Anton Frondell to a three-year, entry-level contract that extends through the 2027-28 NHL season. The deal comes with an annual cap hit of $975,000, signaling the organization’s high confidence in Frondell’s NHL potential following his breakout season overseas.
Rising Star from Sweden
Frondell, 18, emerged as one of the top young prospects in Europe this past season, putting together an impressive campaign with Djurgårdens IF in HockeyAllsvenskan, Sweden’s second-tier professional league. In just 29 regular-season games, the forward racked up 25 points (11 goals, 14 assists), earning him HockeyAllsvenskan Rookie of the Year honors. His standout performances didn’t end there—he added seven more points (3G, 4A) in 16 qualification matches, playing a vital role in helping Djurgårdens capture the league championship and secure promotion to the top-tier Swedish Hockey League (SHL).
In addition to his senior team contributions, Frondell also suited up for Djurgårdens’ J20 team in the J20 Nationell league. Despite limited appearances, he still managed to produce seven points (5G, 2A) in 10 games.
Proven Production at Every Level
Frondell’s strong stats span multiple seasons and levels. Between 2023 and 2025, he logged 38 games in HockeyAllsvenskan, accumulating 26 points (11 goals, 15 assists). In J20 competition over the same stretch, he totaled 46 points (23 goals, 23 assists) in just 39 games.
His 2023-24 season was particularly eye-catching. As a 16-year-old, he led the Djurgårdens J20 squad in goals (18), assists (21), and points (39), highlighting both his scoring instinct and his ability to set up teammates.
International Pedigree
On the international stage, Frondell represented Sweden at the 2025 IIHF World U18 Championship, where he helped guide his nation to a silver medal. He registered three points (1 goal, 2 assists) across five games during the tournament, adding to his growing résumé on the global hockey scene.
A Key Piece for Chicago’s Future
The Blackhawks selected Frondell with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, making him one of the most significant pieces in the franchise’s ongoing rebuild. Standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing 198 pounds, Frondell combines physical maturity with elite playmaking skills and scoring touch—traits that should serve him well as he transitions to North American ice.
With this signing, Chicago takes another step forward in solidifying its future core. Frondell is expected to either challenge for an NHL roster spot in the near future or continue developing in Europe or the AHL, depending on the team’s developmental strategy.
Whether he arrives in Chicago this season or the next, the message is clear: the Blackhawks see Anton Frondell as a foundational piece of their next generation.
