Legendary Former Mizzou Coach Arrested on DWI Charge in Camden County
Former Missouri football head coach and program icon is facing legal trouble after being arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the 73-year-old was taken into custody late Monday night in Camden County. He has since been released.
Recognized as the most successful coach in Mizzou football history, he led the Tigers from 2001 to 2015, compiling an official record of 113–73. However, NCAA sanctions led to vacated wins from his final season, giving the team an official 0–7 mark for 2015.
During that 2015 season, he announced his retirement, citing a non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma diagnosis and a desire to focus on family. He was instrumental in Missouri’s transition from the Big 12 to the SEC, guiding the team to two SEC East titles and major bowl victories during his tenure.
This recent incident marks a troubling turn for the storied coach who once helped elevate Missouri into national prominence on the college football stage.
