The Texas Rangers announced on Thursday that they have traded right-handed pitcher Dane Dunning to the Atlanta Braves in exchange for right-hander José Ruiz and cash considerations.
This season, Ruiz has split his time between Triple-A and the major leagues with both the Braves and the Philadelphia Phillies. While with the Phillies, Ruiz made 16 appearances, recording a 12.88 ERA from March through May before being designated for assignment on June 1. After joining the Braves, Ruiz pitched in two games in June, allowing three runs and three walks over two innings before he was designated for assignment again on June 20.
On the other side, Dunning made five starts for the Rangers this season, posting a 3.38 ERA while allowing four earned runs, five walks, and striking out 10 batters in 10.2 innings. He has also started 11 games with the Rangers’ Triple-A affiliate, Round Rock. Over five seasons with Texas, Dunning accumulated a 26-32 record and a 4.36 ERA across 122 appearances.
José Ruiz is expected to report to Triple-A Round Rock following the trade. The Rangers are set to begin the second half of the season at home against the Detroit Tigers on Friday, July 18, at 7:05 p.m.
