In a low-profile move, the Texas Rangers announced Thursday night that they have traded right-handed pitcher Dane Dunning to the Atlanta Braves in exchange for right-handed reliever José Ruiz and cash considerations.

Ruiz, who has bounced between the majors and minors this season, split time with the Braves and Philadelphia Phillies. During his stint with the Phillies from March to May, he struggled significantly, posting a 12.88 ERA over 16 appearances before being designated for assignment on June 1. The Braves gave him a brief opportunity in June, where he allowed three runs and three walks in just two innings across two appearances before once again being DFA’d on June 20.

Dunning, meanwhile, had a stronger showing in limited action this season. He compiled a 3.38 ERA in five appearances for Texas, giving up four earned runs and five walks while striking out 10 batters in 10.2 innings. He also made 11 starts at Triple-A Round Rock in 2025. Over five seasons with the Rangers, Dunning finished with a 26-32 record and a 4.36 ERA across 122 games.

Ruiz is expected to report to Triple-A Round Rock. The Rangers are set to resume play after the All-Star break with a home matchup against the Detroit Tigers on Friday, July 18 at 7:05 p.m.
