The Texas Rangers have made a pair of roster moves in preparation for their upcoming series against the Detroit Tigers. The team has recalled infielder Justin Foscue from Triple-A Round Rock and optioned utility player Michael Helman back to the minors, per Jeff Wilson of DLLS Sports.
These adjustments reflect the Rangers’ ongoing efforts to stabilize their lineup amidst injuries during the 2025 season.
Foscue, 26, returns for his second stint with the Rangers this year. He previously appeared in three games between June 21 and July 4, going 1-for-6 with a double and two RBIs, while handling seven defensive chances at first base without an error. In Triple-A, he’s posted a strong .262/.353/.471 slash line with 10 home runs and 37 RBIs across 52 games.
A first-round pick in 2020, Foscue has battled injuries throughout his career but consistently performed well in the minors. He debuted in the majors in 2024 and has a .063 batting average (3-for-48) over 18 career MLB games.
Helman, 29, heads back to the minors after a brief five-game appearance with Texas in which he went hitless in four at-bats, walked twice, stole a base, and scored two runs. He played in center field and shortstop during his stint. Over 14 MLB games with the Twins and Rangers, he’s batting .214 (3-for-14) with two doubles.
These moves also come in response to Jake Burger landing on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to July 13) with a left quad strain. To fill the void, Texas plans to activate Rowdy Tellez, who recently joined the organization on a minor league deal. In four games with Round Rock, Tellez hit .333 with two home runs and an .800 slugging percentage.
The Rangers now have 25 players on their active roster and are expected to make another move to reach the 26-player limit before the series begins. Their 40-man roster currently has 39 players, with four pitchers—Cody Bradford, Jon Gray, Tyler Mahle, and Josh Sborz—on the 60-day injured list.
