Blackhawks Lock In Young Blue Line Depth with Two-Year Deal as Offseason RFA Work Begins

The Chicago Blackhawks have officially re-signed defenseman Louis Crevier to a two-year, one-way contract that carries a $900,000 cap hit, marking the first of their restricted free agent signings this offseason. The 24-year-old has developed into a reliable depth option on the blue line, appearing in 32 NHL games last season while netting his first three career goals and showing marked improvement in his overall defensive metrics.

Praised for his solid positioning and ability to disrupt plays, Crevier now looks to take the next step in his development by refining his puck-handling under pressure. His rise from a seventh-round pick in the 2020 draft to a consistent NHL contributor adds an inspiring twist to his journey.

With Crevier now under contract, the Blackhawks still have two restricted free agents left to address: goaltender Arvid Soderblom — who has filed for arbitration — and defenseman Wyatt Kaiser.

In a separate move, Chicago also added goaltending depth by signing 22-year-old Russian netminder Stanislav Berezhnoy to a two-year entry-level contract. After putting up impressive save percentages in Russia’s VHL last season, Berezhnoy will join Drew Commesso in Rockford as the Hawks continue evaluating their long-term goaltending pipeline.
