After 13 years of grinding it out at the highest level, longtime MLB outfielder Kevin Pillar has officially retired from professional baseball. Known for his relentless work ethic and defensive brilliance in center field, Pillar’s career was a testament to perseverance and heart.
Though the 2024 Los Angeles Angels endured a disastrous season — their worst ever, finishing 63-99 and losing stars like Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout — Pillar gave fans a rare bright spot. Signing with the Angels just after Trout went down, he didn’t light up the stat sheet but gave fans something to cheer for by reaching the 10-year service mark, a huge personal milestone.
Pillar returned in 2025 with the Texas Rangers, making their Opening Day roster after a minor league deal. Though he was eventually designated for assignment, his presence, leadership, and knack for proving doubters wrong once again stood out.
From being drafted in the 32nd round to enduring multiple surgeries and injuries — including thumb and facial fractures — Pillar’s journey was marked by grit and determination. He may no longer be stepping on the field, but with his deep knowledge, leadership qualities, and love for the game, he’s poised to make a lasting impact off the field.
