Veteran outfielder Kevin Pillar officially announced his retirement from Major League Baseball on Wednesday after 13 seasons. Speaking on Foul Territory, Pillar reflected on his decision, explaining that after being designated for assignment by the Rangers in May and spending time at home with family, he felt at peace stepping away from the game.
Though he initially considered 2024 his final year, offseason rehab from thumb surgery and lingering doubts pushed him to return for one more shot in spring training. After a brief stint with the Rangers, Pillar realized he was ready to move on and embrace life as a full-time father. Over his 13-year career, he played for 10 different teams, most notably the Blue Jays, and retires with a .255 batting average, 114 home runs, and 469 RBIs.
