The Cincinnati Reds made some changes to their roster on Monday ahead of their series opener in Boston against the Red Sox. With right-handed reliever Ian Gibaut landing on the 15-day injured list due to a right shoulder impingement, the team has called up left-handed reliever Joe La Sorsa from Triple-A Louisville to take his place.
Gibaut last took the mound on Saturday against the Padres, tossing a clean 9th inning on just 11 pitches. In his absence, La Sorsa returns to the majors after previously appearing in two games for the Reds this season. He impressed in his debut with a hitless inning despite issuing two walks against the Diamondbacks. However, his second outing didn’t go as smoothly—he gave up four runs on five hits in just one inning versus the Guardians.
Since returning to Triple-A, La Sorsa has made four appearances, allowing one earned run over 3.2 innings. During that stretch, he’s given up three hits and three walks while striking out seven.
