“Rangers expected to move on from their two-time All-Star as the team shifts to align with the new manager’s approach.”

The Texas Rangers will enter the 2026 MLB season with a new manager, Skip Schumaker, and his arrival could spark notable roster changes.

ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez highlighted one major possibility: trading Adolis García. The two-time All-Star and 2023 ALCS MVP is now 32 and coming off a down year, hitting .227 with a .665 OPS. According to Gonzalez, many around the league expect Texas to trim payroll and get younger under Schumaker, making García a likely trade candidate.

At the GM Meetings, though, Rangers executive Chris Young dismissed the notion that the team would make moves solely for financial reasons. He emphasized that Texas will maintain a competitive payroll and isn’t under pressure to shed salary, saying they intend to win with the resources they have.

Texas had an unusual 2025 season, pairing the league’s best team ERA with a finish nine games out of first place in the AL West. Their offense has sputtered since their World Series run, and while García’s decline hasn’t helped, he’s not the only issue.

Regardless, the Rangers need to overhaul the lineup in some form—whether by adding talent, moving pieces out, or finding improvement through subtraction.
