The Texas Rangers are deeply saddened by the passing of Scott Littlefield, a vital part of the team’s baseball operations staff for the past 16 years. He died Friday morning in Houston, Texas, while on assignment for the club. He was 59 years old.
At the time of his passing, Littlefield held the position of Special Assistant, Player Personnel. Over his 34-year career in Major League Baseball, he served as a scout for three different organizations.
“We are heartbroken by the loss of Scott Littlefield,” said Chris Young, Rangers President of Baseball Operations. “He was one of the most respected scouts in the game and made a lasting impact on our organization. His insight influenced every area of our baseball operation—from pro and amateur scouting to international talent and Major League player evaluations. He was truly indispensable.
“More importantly, Scott was a kind, genuine person. The Littlefield family is deeply rooted in baseball, with both of his children and two brothers working in the sport. Many of us spent time with Scott earlier this week in Houston, and his dedication to the Rangers was as strong as ever.”
