The Boston Red Sox have agreed to a minor league contract with reliever Hobie Harris for the 2026 season, per Ari Alexander. Represented by Gaeta Sports Management, Harris will join the team for Spring Training as a non-roster invitee.
This marks Harris’s second straight year with the Red Sox organization. The 32-year-old right-hander spent the 2025 season with Boston after initially signing a minor league deal with the Mets last November. The Red Sox picked him up in the Triple-A phase of the Rule 5 Draft shortly thereafter. Although he missed some time early in the season due to shoulder inflammation, Harris has been healthy since June, posting a 4.15 ERA over 39 innings at Triple-A Worcester. He struck out 25% of opposing batters but struggled with control and gave up home runs at an above-average rate.
Originally drafted by the Yankees, Harris had a brief stint in the majors with the Nationals two seasons ago, appearing in 16 games and giving up 12 runs (11 earned) over 19 1/3 innings. He notched just nine strikeouts during that time, but owns a solid 24% strikeout rate over parts of five Triple-A seasons. Harris relies on a three-pitch arsenal that includes a mid-80s splitter, a four-seam fastball around 95 mph, and a cutter in the upper 80s.
