At the start of the season, rookie pitcher Jack Leiter appeared to be at risk of losing his spot in the Texas Rangers’ rotation. However, as the season draws to a close, he is now being talked about as a strong contender for Rookie of the Year.
Leiter’s turnaround became clear in August, when he posted an impressive 2.76 ERA and struck out 35 batters over 26.1 innings. He capped off his rookie season with a dominant performance against the Cleveland Guardians, striking out 10 and lowering his season ERA to below 4.00.
A former Rangers pitcher and front office executive, Colby Lewis, believes he understands how Leiter managed this impressive turnaround. Lewis also feels that the lessons Leiter learned this season will help him develop into an even better player in 2026 and beyond
