The Chicago Blackhawks announced today that they’ve signed their 24-year-old goaltender to a three-year, $17.5 million contract extension. The new deal, which carries an annual cap hit of $5.83 million, won’t begin until the 2026–27 season, following the end of his current contract.
The goaltender was acquired from the Florida Panthers at the 2025 NHL trade deadline in exchange for veteran defenseman Seth Jones.
Last season, he appeared in 38 games between Florida and Chicago, posting a 17–16–3 record, a 2.72 goals-against average (GAA), and a .902 save percentage (SV%). Over his four-year NHL career, he has compiled a 49–33–9 record, five shutouts, a 2.82 GAA, and a .904 SV%.
What This Means for the Blackhawks
The deal is another move in a busy offseason for GM Kyle Davidson, who has been active in locking up core players. The goaltender becomes the second major piece extended this summer, joining forward Frank Nazar, who also signed a long-term deal.
This extension serves as a bridge contract, giving the goalie a chance to solidify himself as the team’s long-term starter. By the time this contract ends in 2029–30, he’ll be entering his prime years — and likely in position for an even bigger payday if he performs up to expectations.
Now, attention shifts to Connor Bedard, the face of the franchise and the last remaining major player without a long-term extension. While no immediate deal is expected, discussions are likely to pick up next offseason as he approaches restricted free agency.
