Chicago Blackhawks Officially Secure Key Goaltender with Two-Year Contract Extension, Strengthening Their Netminding Core Through 2027

The Chicago Blackhawks announced on July 26, 2025, that they have agreed to terms with goaltender Arvid Söderblom on a two-year contract that will keep him with the team through the end of the 2026-27 NHL season. The contract carries a $2.75 million salary cap hit.

Söderblom, 25, had a significant role with the Blackhawks during the 2024-25 season, appearing in a career-high 36 games. Over that span, he posted a 10-18-7 record, with a goals-against average (GAA) of 3.18 and a save percentage of .898. These numbers marked personal bests for Söderblom in games played, wins, GAA, and save percentage. Beyond the NHL, he represented Team Sweden at the 2025 IIHF World Championships, showcasing his talent on an international stage.

Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 180 pounds, Söderblom has accumulated 86 regular-season NHL games with Chicago to date, with an overall record of 17 wins, 52 losses, and 11 overtime/shootout losses, along with a 3.55 GAA. In the American Hockey League (AHL), he has been a key player for the Rockford IceHogs, the Blackhawks’ AHL affiliate. With Rockford, Söderblom posted a solid 36-27-7 record, a 2.83 goals-against average, and a .913 save percentage. His playoff experience in the AHL is notable as well, with a 4-6 record, .912 save percentage, and a 3.09 GAA over 10 Calder Cup playoff games.

Originally from Göteborg, Sweden, Söderblom entered the Blackhawks organization as an undrafted free agent on May 13, 2021. Since then, he has steadily developed within the organization, earning increased trust as a goaltender capable of competing at the NHL level.

The two-year extension reflects the Blackhawks’ confidence in Söderblom’s continued growth and his potential to be a significant part of the team’s goaltending future.
