Manchester City have no plans to offload 23-year-old Spanish international Nico Gonzalez during the current summer transfer window, despite recent speculation linking him with a move to the Saudi Pro League.

As reported by Football Insider, Gonzalez’s future at the Etihad Stadium has been uncertain in recent weeks amid growing interest from Saudi clubs. Manchester City’s recent additions in midfield have raised questions about his role, especially with Rodri returning from a long-term knee injury to reclaim his position as the team’s first-choice holding midfielder.

Gonzalez’s Time at Manchester City

Gonzalez joined Manchester City earlier this year in a £50 million transfer from FC Porto. The midfielder, originally from A Coruna and a product of Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy, struggled to break into the senior team at Camp Nou and made a move to Portugal in 2023. He performed consistently for Porto over 18 months, earning a move to the Premier League champions. However, since joining City, his involvement has fluctuated, particularly in the latter half of the 2024/25 season.

Looking Ahead

This summer has seen further competition added to City’s midfield, with the signings of Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki. Combined with Rodri’s return to full fitness, speculation intensified that Gonzalez could leave, with several reports pointing to potential interest from the Saudi Pro League.

Despite the speculation, Manchester City have made it clear they will not accept any offers for Gonzalez this summer. The club remains committed to keeping the young Spaniard, and it remains to be seen whether he can solidify a consistent role in Pep Guardiola’s plans for the 2025/26 campaign.
