Major Setback Hits Reds as Bullpen Takes a Hit From Sudden Injury, Prompting Urgent Roster Replacement

As the Cincinnati Reds kick off their series against the Boston Red Sox, they’ve made some key roster changes. Left-handed reliever Joe La Sorsa has been promoted from Triple-A Louisville to fill in for right-handed pitcher Ian Gibaut, who’s been placed on the 15-day injured list due to a right shoulder impingement. Gibaut last pitched a clean inning in Saturday’s loss to the Padres.

La Sorsa, who has appeared in two games for the Reds this season, had mixed results—delivering a scoreless inning against Arizona before giving up four runs to Cleveland in his next outing. Since returning to Triple-A, he’s shown improvement, allowing just one earned run over 3.2 innings with seven strikeouts in four appearances for Louisville.
