The LA Kings recently signed forward Cole Guttman to a two-way contract, adding NHL experience and scoring depth likely aimed at boosting their AHL affiliate, the Ontario Reign. Guttman, formerly with the Chicago Blackhawks organization, was a sixth-round draft pick in 2017 by Tampa Bay but ended up signing with Chicago after his rights expired. He played his college hockey at the University of Denver, a familiar pipeline for Kings prospects.
Guttman had a standout AHL season last year, leading the Rockford IceHogs with 23 goals and 34 assists while also serving as an alternate captain. Though he spent last season in the minors, he’s appeared in 41 NHL games over the last two years, tallying eight goals and six assists, including two power-play goals. With the departure of top scorer Samuel Fagemo to Winnipeg, Guttman is expected to help fill the offensive void for Ontario.
