Infielder Leaves Game After Frightening Ankle Injury, But Escapes Season-Ending Diagnosis in Positive Turn

Cleveland Guardians infielder Gabriel Arias suffered a frightening injury during the third inning of Sunday’s matchup against the St. Louis Cardinals. While attempting a defensive play, Arias twisted his ankle and remained on the ground for several minutes in visible pain.

He was taken out of the game and replaced by Daniel Schneemann before being sent for X-rays. Initially, the injury appeared serious enough to suggest a possible fracture that might have ended his season.

Fortunately for the Guardians, the diagnosis was less severe. Arias was found to have a sprained left ankle, with X-rays coming back negative. As reported by Jeff Schudel of the News-Herald on X, “It looked worse when he had to be taken from the field on an equipment cart.”
