In What Could Become One of the Most Talked-About Deals of the Season,Reds Reportedly Lining Up Blockbuster Trade to Reunite With Former Diamondbacks Slugger in Stunning Deadline Move Aimed at Supercharging Their Playoff Dreams and Filling a Critical Lineup Void

As trade deadline chatter intensifies, one of the hottest names on the market is Arizona Diamondbacks slugger Eugenio Suárez — and a potential reunion with the Cincinnati Reds is gaining traction.

According to MLB insider Jim Bowden, Suárez could be the power bat the Reds desperately need. In his latest column, Bowden lays out five trades he believes would make sense before the deadline, including a scenario that sends Suárez back to Cincinnati, where he played from 2015 to 2021. His most productive seasons came in 2018 and 2019, when he blasted 34 and 49 home runs with over 100 RBIs each year.

Bowden believes adding Suárez would be a major boost to Cincinnati’s playoff hopes. “The Reds have the pitching to be a wild-card team but are missing one impact power bat,” Bowden wrote. “Suárez would be a game-changer for their lineup.”

So far in 2025, Suárez is slashing .252/.325/.593 with 36 home runs and a league-leading 86 RBIs — trailing only Cal Raleigh, Aaron Judge, and Shohei Ohtani in homers. He’s expected to become a free agent after the season, adding urgency for contenders to make a move.

In the proposed trade, the Reds would send a package of young talent to Arizona, including third baseman Cam Collier and pitchers Chase Petty and Adam Serwinowski. Bowden notes that Petty and Serwinowski would offer much-needed pitching depth to the Diamondbacks. Petty, known for his 100-mph fastball, holds a 4.14 ERA over 15 Triple-A starts, while Serwinowski has tallied 86 strikeouts in 70 innings at High-A.

Collier, viewed as the centerpiece of the deal, is considered one of Cincinnati’s top prospects. The 20-year-old is hitting .299 with a .422 OBP and has already climbed across three minor league levels this season. Last year, he launched 20 homers, drove in 74 RBIs in High-A, and earned MVP honors at the Futures Game before a thumb injury delayed his 2025 debut.

As the July 31 deadline approaches, all eyes will be on whether the Reds make a serious push to bring their former star back to Cincinnati — and if Arizona is ready to deal one of the most dangerous bats on the market.
