In a stunning twist that caught many by surprise, Sharks GM Mike Grier pulled off a bold offseason move by signing a former Blackhawks forward, adding proven skill and international experience to San Jose’s roster.

The San Jose Sharks have signed forward Philipp Kurashev to a one-year deal worth $1.2 million, as announced by General Manager Mike Grier.

Kurashev, 25, joins San Jose after playing 317 NHL games with the Chicago Blackhawks, where he recorded 130 points (48 goals, 82 assists) over five seasons. In the 2023–24 campaign, he had a breakout performance with 54 points in 75 games. Last season, he registered 14 points in 51 appearances.

An experienced international player, Kurashev has competed for Switzerland in multiple U-18 and World Championship tournaments, including a silver medal run in 2024. He was originally drafted by Chicago in the fourth round (120th overall) in 2018.
