JUST NOW Cowboys Likely to Make Offer to Head Coaching Candidate

It was certainly a disappointing season for Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys. After three straight seasons going 12-5, the Cowboys finished 2024 with a 7-10 record and failed to make the postseason entirely. Now, Dallas will be moving forward without head coach Mike McCarthy, who parted ways with the organization after five seasons. The Cowboys were late to the party in regards to the hunt for a new head coach and missed out on some big-name candidates, such as Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn.

Still, Dallas had already interviewed three candidates, including Seattle Schottenheimer has plenty of experience in the NFL, just not in the head coaching position. After many years as a positional coach for numerous teams, Schottenheimer got his shot as an offensive coordinator for the New York Jets from 2006 to 2011, when he helped the team make the AFC Championship Game. Since leaving New York, Schottenheimer has been the offensive coordinator for multiple different football teams, including the St. Louis Rams, Georgia Bulldogs and Seattle Seahawks. He joined the Cowboys as a coaching analyst in 2022 before getting promoted the following year.
